Spy Photos of the C7 Stingray and a new LT4 Small Block V8 Engine Have Hit the Web
Just a few days after Chevy’s announcement of their C7 Stingray Z06 Corvette, spy photos of one involved in engine testing have been captured. The images show a highly modified Stingray featuring camouflage used to disguise dramatic aerodynamic enhancements, extra vents, and a new hood. What lies underneath the hood is what’s the most intriguing thing, however.
Spy photos of what appears to be the future Corvette Z06 engine, dubbed the LT4, have also hit the web. The LT4 appears to be a supercharged and modified version of the 6.2L LT1 V8. Rumors swirling around this engine put its HP ratings as high as 650HP, although the 600HP mark seems to be the most likely.
While the HP number is what we’re uncertain about at this point, the existence of the LT4 is something we’re not questioning. A spy photo has leaked showing the clearly marked LT4 on an engine stand with a supercharger inlet. The spy photos of the C7 Z06 itself also seem to indicate a power hood inlet for extra space to fit the supercharger and the vents to allow for more air.
The engine and hood aren’t all that has been changed, however. The front fascia has been thoroughly reworked to with a larger grille opening flanked by aerodynamic enhancements on either side. The rear quarter panels now also sport added cooling vents behind the wheels, similar to the brake cooling duct found on the C5 Z06. As seen in the teaser, the Corvette Z06’s rocker panel certainly looks more aggressive too. We expect more aerodynamic changes to be made both to the vehicle’s rear end and the front lip and fascia.
